Theft from Motor Vehicle

Police are currently investigating three vehicle related crimes in Harpenden South as detailed below:

Crime number 41/41457/26 - Cranbourne Drive, Harpenden between 12:00 on the 03/05/26 and 08:00 on the 04/05/26 -Items taken from the vehicle.

Crime number 41/41573/26 - Wensley Close - Harpenden approx. 04:00 am on the 04/05/26- attempted to gain entry to vehicle.

Crime number 41/41648/26 - Grove Road, Harpenden between 16:30 on the 05/06/26 and 07:00 am on the 06/06/26 - Number Plates removed.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Remove your satnav and holder and wipe away suction marks which could indicate that a satnav is stored in your vehicle.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them lying around, visible or in pockets in changing rooms where they could be taken. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers and steering wheel locks.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.

Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.
